Nicholas provides strategic, commercially focused advice in contentious landlord and tenant matters, with a particular expertise in:
- Building Safety Act and Cladding Disputes
- Remediation Orders and Remediation Contribution Orders
- Building Liability Orders
- Leaseholder Protections and Landlord Certificate Disputes
- Service Charge and Interim Fire Safety Measures (including fire watch and alarm systems)
- Section 20 Consultation and Dispensation
- Landlord and Tenant Disputes (Deposit Protection and Rent Repayment Order Defence)
He acts on both sides of disputes:
- Defence: Advising freeholders, developers and managing agents on limiting or eliminating liability, managing risk across portfolios, and defending tribunal and court proceedings.
- Claimant: Acting for leaseholder groups and tenants in pursuing remediation orders, financial recovery, and statutory claims.
Nicholas is known for cutting through complexity quickly, positioning clients advantageously at an early stage, and driving matters toward efficient, commercially sensible outcomes, whether through early resolution or robust litigation. Nicholas works with top chambers specialising in these areas.
Background
Nicholas is a dual-qualified solicitor with 8 years’ post-qualification experience, alongside a further 5 years of legal and commercial experience. He is currently qualifying as a barrister in England and Wales.
He has advised on a broad range of national and international matters, with a background spanning high-value property disputes, financial services (capital markets, derivatives, funds and asset-management), artificial intelligence and digital assets. His experience includes work with major global institutions such as BlackRock, J.P. Morgan, Simmons and Simmons and Barclays. Most recently he was interim GC and then Deputy GC at an institutional Defi company.
Nicholas brings this commercial and regulatory perspective into his disputes practice, particularly in high-value, technically complex building safety and property litigation.
