The next generation at Nexa: a word from our interns
We recently said goodbye to one of our legal interns who had joined us from Queen Mary University of London this Autumn.
We’re extremely proud of our partnership with Queen Mary University which, since 2019, has seen us welcome a group of student interns to work at Nexa each year. You can read more about this in our recent blog.
Jamie Tipp’s time with us has flown by, but before he left we sat down to ask him about his experience. This is what he said:
“I am lucky enough to have secured a training contract at a city law firm and I hoped that my experience as an intern would help prepare me for life as a trainee solicitor.
As I reflect on my short time at Nexa, I realise that I have picked up so much simply from observing and interacting with the lawyers here, it really has been invaluable.
One of my first tasks was to write-up minutes from Nexa’s new law thought leadership roundtable. The event gave me the opportunity to network with a variety of lawyers from a range of different backgrounds.
It was great to grow my understanding of how the legal world is modernising and the role the consultancy law model is playing in that.
I also really appreciated being able to join the internal discussion on all things ESG as I know that this is going to be an important area as my career progresses.
I was excited to assist some of Nexa’s consultant lawyers with their client work. For instance, I researched and drafted a report to a client outlining whether voluntary strike off or a members’ voluntary liquidation was the best option to dissolve their company.
One of my favourite parts of the internship was drafting letters to clients for a litigation consultant – as this mirrored the sort of work that I hope to be doing as a trainee solicitor.
I felt like I learned so much from conversations with the lawyer about the tasks he set me together with the feedback I received. It was great to see how the law is applied in practice and to work through the commercial options available to the clients.
Everyone at Nexa has been so welcoming and supportive and I would highly recommend anyone considering a career in law to apply for this opportunity.”
