Consultant Life Stories – David Turner, Litigation Partner

Nexa are very supportive….my only regret is that I did not make the jump earlier!

Continuing our ‘Consultant Life Stories’ series, where our lawyers share their journey to becoming a consultant solicitor with Nexa, we caught up with Litigation Partner, David Turner.

Meet the Consultant…

David is a Litigation Partner, specialising in commercial dispute resolution, in particular civil contractual disputes.

What do you do at Nexa?

Commercial dispute resolution is a wide practice area.  I specialise in contractual disputes; professional negligence claims; contentious probate claims and more recently, data breach claims.

What prompted you to join Nexa?

For 30 years or so, I worked in the “traditional model” way, until I had a conversation with a previous colleague who had moved to Nexa to become a consultant solicitor.  I do not quite want to describe this as an “opening eyes” moment, but the freedom and flexibility that Nexa offered were just so great, that I decided to make the move.

 Where have you worked previously?

I qualified as a solicitor in 1992 and worked for a variety of law firms (mostly top 100 firms) in London and the Southwest, in the traditional way.  I was a partner in my last 3 law firms I worked at before I joined Nexa.

What one piece of advice would you give to a lawyer thinking about becoming self-employed?

I am not really in a position to give advice, but if I were it would be to give Nexa a try!  Even if it doesn’t work out, you can always move back to a law firm and have the extra respect from the firm you are joining for having given it a try.

For those considering a move to Nexa I can highly recommend it – honestly, you won’t look back once you make the move.  I do of course know that the security offered by a law firm model with a regular salary can be very attractive.  But if you are thinking of a change then you should trust yourself – you probably are better at attracting work than you think.

What do you most enjoy about being a consultant at Nexa?

Nexa are very supportive – I have now been with them for almost a year and I have not looked back. It has been a great experience, and my only regret is that I did not make the jump earlier!
