Background
Talya qualified as a solicitor in 2006 and has worked in the EU and Competition legal teams at two major city law firms, as well as at a regulated water company and at three major UK regulators in the areas of energy, health and water.
Talya has advised a range of private and public sector clients, and has a track record of working in sensitive political, commercial and financial contexts. Talya has advised regulators on appeals of their price control decisions before the Competition and Markets Authority and also advised on major legislative and licence drafting in the energy sector for the energy crisis and for the establishment of the system operator, both of which were award winning projects. She has also extensively advised on the establishment of regulatory frameworks across the Middle East.
Talya also has a great deal of experience advising private companies on regulatory and competition law compliance, both in regulated sectors, such as water, and also companies which have been faced with enforcement proceedings. She advises companies on how to manage competition law investigations and how to ensure compliance to mitigate risk of falling foul of competition or consumer law.
Talya also has deep insight into the public sector and the calculations on risk that the public sector takes, helping clients understand how policy becomes law and how they can be an effective stakeholder in this development. This includes guiding clients to interpret regulatory frameworks, engage effectively with government including shaping a response to a consultation and statutory interpretation. Talya can also assist in responding to or appealing public sector decision making, including public law issues, licence modification appeals and other challenges.
