The Law Firm Client (LFC) is engaged by clients on high value international litigation. A surge in complex instructions meant that capacity within the team was stretched and the firm risked having to turn away work. NexaConnex provided a senior litigation lawyer “on demand” to work on client matters under the supervision of the head of department. In addition, NexaConnex provided the LFC with access to AI-powered electronic discovery software, Luminance, to help the firm streamline its disclosure processes.
NexaConnex contracts directly with the LFC and clients are informed that a lawyer from Nexa Law is providing additional support to the firm.
The NexaConnex lawyer is instructed to assist on specific tasks on specific matters and records their time on Nexa Law’s practice management system before reporting monthly timesheets to the LFC.
The NexaConnex lawyer has access to trainee and paralegal support.
All work is signed off by the LFC Partner before going out the door.
Nexa has a longstanding relationship with Luminance and can licence access to the software to the LFC on a project-by-project basis at a considerable cost saving to the firm.
The NexaConnex lawyer does not require any IT access of equipment from the LFC and utilises Nexa Law’s own email and practice management systems.
Instructions and documents produced are shared by email.
Clients are aware that a NexaConnex lawyer may be copied on emails, and it is agreed on a case by case basis whether the Nexa lawyer should contact the client direct.
Support is generally limited to drafting advice, preparing documents and letters, and instructing Counsel and experts.
The NexaConnex lawyer provides support with adopting Luminance, alongside the training offered by the Luminance team.
Work carried out by NexaConnex is insured by Allianz.
Nexa Law’s risk management and compliance policies are followed.
NexaConnex agreed an hourly rate with the LFC and invoices are raised monthly on each matter undertaken. The LFC then uplifts that rate when invoicing their own client in order to make a margin.
The LFC is responsible for payment of fees charged by NexaConnex but we have agreed to defer payment until the clients have settled their invoices.
